Why you need to be using your body as part of your personal development

You’re working hard on your personal development, but you still don’t see the change you want in yourself or in your behaviour? Why?

Because to make life long shifts you ALSO need to engage with the unconscious patterns held in your body.

And here are 3 reasons why:

1. We need to tackle our conscious and unconscious drivers

Knowing what we need to do or shouldn’t do, doesn’t make it so. This is because we have both conscious and unconscious drivers in our behaviour. Our conscious drivers are often associated with our thinking mind. But our unconscious (that are outside of our awareness) are held in the body.

For example, we might consciously think we want to set boundaries and say ‘no’ more, but when it comes time to say it, our throat feels like it closes, and the words simply don’t come out.

So, we need to work with our body to help bring the unconscious into consciousness.

2. We need to think and feel

The more you learn through your logical mind without involving the body, the more tension you create by trying to control the responses of your body. You may try to stay in control despite the discomfort inside, or you may simply disconnect from what you feel and deaden your senses altogether.

This can lead to – anxiety and depression with no real ‘reason’ as to why, chronic illness or pain without a medical cause, and (unconscious) choices that lead us away from what you are consciously moving towards – feeling like no matter what you do, you seem to be moving away from what you want.

Allowing yourself to think and feel together is the way out of the stalemate.

3. We need to embrace our whole self

Your thinking mind doesn’t need to outsmart your body. Your sensations, thoughts and emotions are all important and welcome when you’re in alignment and flow. Each can inform your choices and responses in the moment in a meaningful and healthy way.

Learning to understand the messages and wisdom of your whole self helps you move toward flow with a genuine and aligned intention for yourself.
